With the golden dunes of the Thar Desert as its background and the brilliant blue sky above, the city of Jaisalmer stands gloriously tall and proud. Known for its fort perched atop the Trikuta hill Jaisalmer commands your attention from the moment you lay eyes on it.

According to legend and mythology Lord Krishna predicted that a remote descendant of the Yadav Clan would build his kingdom atop a hill. This prediction was proven true when RawalJaisal, a Bhati Rajput built the Jaisalmer Fort City in 1156.

The fort is charming and filled with history. The cobbled stones take you back in time as you navigate your way through narrow alleys and lanes. There are many palaces, temples and havelis situated within the fort, each intricately carved in yellow sandstone. Some of the structures date back to the 12th – 15th century giving the fort the popular nickname of ‘the museum city’.

Today, Jaisalmer is one of the few cities in Rajasthan untouched by commercialization with an old world charm. It attracts Indian as well as international tourists in large numbers and is a popular destination within cities which one must see in Rajasthan.
